Hand Rejuvenation Fillers · quick answer
What hand fillers do, in one paragraph
Hand rejuvenation fillers restore the thin layer of volume on the back of the hand that is lost with age, making veins and tendons look less prominent and the skin smoother. Options include hyaluronic acid (HA) for immediate, reversible volume, and collagen stimulators such as Radiesse or Sculptra for gradual, longer-lasting improvement. At Ever Skin Clinic in Apgujeong, a board-certified dermatologist compares these options for your skin and may combine filler with treatment for age spots.

Choosing a filler
Which filler is right for your hands?
The back of the hand has very little fat. As it thins, skin becomes translucent and veins, tendons and knuckles stand out, which can make hands look older than the face. Filler spread as a thin, even layer under the skin restores that cushion. The main decision is the type of product, each with trade-offs.
This page compares the options. For a step-by-step look at the treatment itself, see hand rejuvenation fillers. Brown spots on the hands respond better to lasers such as pico laser than to filler.
Main options compared
- Hyaluronic acid — immediate result, reversible with hyaluronidase; may need more frequent top-ups
- Radiesse (calcium hydroxylapatite) — immediate volume plus collagen stimulation; approved for hands in several countries; not reversible
- Sculptra (poly-L-lactic acid) — gradual collagen building over a course; needs post-treatment massage
- Skin boosters — improve thin, crepey skin quality but add little volume
Is it right for you?
Who is a good candidate?
Good candidates have hands that look bony, with visible veins and tendons, and are otherwise healthy. Many patients request hand treatment after facial rejuvenation, when their hands no longer match their face.
If you have hand arthritis, frequent swelling, recent hand surgery or a job that relies on fine hand work, tell your dermatologist, as timing and product choice may need adjusting.

- Aftercare We explain hand care, massage instructions if Sculptra was used, and when to review.

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
Swelling of the back of the hands is common for a few days and can make rings feel tight. Bruising and tenderness are possible. Lumps or unevenness are uncommon and usually smooth out with massage or adjustment; HA can be dissolved with hyaluronidase, but Radiesse and Sculptra cannot. Infection is rare.
Tell your dermatologist about arthritis, previous hand surgery, lymphoedema, autoimmune disease, allergies, blood thinners, or pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contact the clinic if swelling or pain increases rather than settles.
Aftercare tips
- Remove rings before treatment and leave them off for a couple of days
- Keep your hands raised when resting on the first day
- Avoid heavy gripping, weights and hot water for 2 to 3 days
- Follow massage instructions exactly if Sculptra was used
- Use sunscreen on the backs of your hands daily
Questions we hear every day
Hand Rejuvenation Fillers FAQ
Which filler lasts longest in the hands?
Collagen stimulators such as Radiesse and Sculptra often last longer than HA, roughly a year or more, because they build your own collagen. HA may need top-ups sooner but can be dissolved. Your dermatologist will help you weigh durability against reversibility.
Does hand filler hurt?
Most patients feel pressure and mild stinging. Many products contain lidocaine and the cannula technique needs only a few entry points. The hands may feel tender for a few days.
Will I be able to use my hands normally?
Yes, for everyday tasks. Swelling may make fine movements and wearing rings uncomfortable for a few days, so avoid heavy gripping, weights and very hot water until it settles.
Will filler hide all my veins?
No, and it should not. Filler softens how prominent veins and tendons look, but some should remain visible for natural-looking hands. Overfilling can make hands look puffy.
Can I have hand filler while travelling?
Yes. Downtime is mostly swelling for a few days. Remove rings beforehand, and if Sculptra is chosen, remember that a course needs several sessions weeks apart.
