V-Beam Laser · quick answer
What V-beam laser does, in one paragraph
V-beam is a pulsed dye laser (595 nm) designed to treat blood vessels. Its yellow light is absorbed by haemoglobin, heating and closing small dilated vessels while a cooling spray protects the skin surface, so redness, broken capillaries and red marks gradually fade. It is a standard dermatology laser for rosacea redness, telangiectasia, red acne marks and some red birthmarks and scars. At Ever Skin Clinic, a board-certified dermatologist diagnoses the cause of your redness and sets the energy and pulse length for each target.

The treatment
What is V-beam laser?
V-beam is a laser, not intense pulsed light. It emits a single 595 nm wavelength that oxyhaemoglobin absorbs strongly, so energy is concentrated in blood vessels while surrounding tissue is spared. Each pulse is preceded by a burst of cooling spray to protect the skin. Vessels are closed and then cleared by the body over several weeks.
V-beam is often chosen when redness is more stubborn than IPL therapy can easily treat, or when individual vessels need precise targeting. It is not a melasma treatment; for brown pigment our dermatologists use laser toning or other pigment lasers.
What V-beam can treat
- Rosacea redness and persistent background flushing
- Broken capillaries (telangiectasia) on the nose and cheeks
- Red acne marks (post-inflammatory erythema)
- Red or raised scars , alongside other scar treatments
- Some vascular birthmarks and small cherry angiomas
Is it right for you?
Who is a good candidate?
V-beam suits people with redness or visible vessels who want a targeted medical laser. It can be used on a wide range of skin types, but darker or tanned skin needs more cautious settings because melanin also absorbs some of the light.
Rosacea with active bumps and pustules usually needs medical treatment first, and your dermatologist will check for other causes of redness such as dermatitis before laser.
V-beam may suit you if you
- Have persistent redness on the cheeks, nose or chin
- Have visible red lines or spider veins on the face
- Have red marks that remain after acne has settled
- Have red, raised or new scars
- Want a more precise option than IPL for vessels

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
Redness, warmth and swelling are common for one to three days, especially around the eyes. With stronger settings used for some vessels or birthmarks, purple bruising (purpura) can appear and last about one to two weeks, so we discuss your plans first. Less common risks include blistering, temporary pigment change and, rarely, scarring.
Tell your dermatologist if you have a tan, take blood-thinning medicines, isotretinoin or photosensitising medicines, have a history of cold sores, or are pregnant.
Aftercare tips
- Apply cool compresses and sleep with your head raised the first night
- Avoid alcohol, saunas and intense exercise for 48 hours
- Use gentle, fragrance-free skincare
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily
- Do not rub or scrub treated areas
Questions we hear every day
V-Beam Laser FAQ
Does V-beam hurt?
Each pulse feels like a quick snap of a rubber band, softened by the cooling spray. Most patients manage without numbing cream, though it can be used for sensitive areas. The session is usually short.
How many sessions will I need?
Many patients need about two to four sessions spaced four to six weeks apart. Fine vessels and red acne marks may respond quickly, while rosacea redness often needs maintenance. Your dermatologist reviews your progress each time.
Will I bruise after V-beam?
It depends on the settings. Gentler, purpura-free settings usually cause only redness and swelling. Stronger settings, sometimes needed for stubborn vessels or birthmarks, can cause purple bruising for one to two weeks. We will agree the approach with you in advance.
What is the difference between V-beam and IPL?
V-beam is a laser with one wavelength aimed at blood vessels, while IPL uses a filtered range of light that treats redness and brown spots together. V-beam is often more precise for vessels; IPL is versatile for mixed sun damage.
Can I have V-beam during a short trip?
Yes, but allow for redness and swelling for a few days and avoid strong sun and heat. If you have important events or flights soon after, tell us so we can choose gentler settings.
