Jawline & Chin Fillers · quick answer

What jawline and chin fillers do, in one paragraph

Jawline and chin fillers are firm injectable gels, usually structural hyaluronic acid and sometimes calcium hydroxylapatite, placed along the jaw and at the chin to sharpen the lower-face outline and improve the side profile. Treating the chin and jaw together lets the dermatologist balance length, projection and width as one unit. It suits a recessed or short chin, a soft jawline or early jowls. At Ever Skin Clinic, a board-certified dermatologist assesses your profile, bite and muscle before planning the shape.

The treatment

What are jawline and chin fillers?

The chin and jawline frame the lower face. A small or retruded chin can make the nose look larger and the neck less defined, while a soft jaw angle can make the face look rounder. Filler placed close to the bone at key points adds projection and a cleaner line, using a layered technique so the result looks structured rather than bulky.

This page covers combined chin and jaw planning. For focused pages see chin fillers and jawline fillers. When jaw width comes from muscle, our dermatologists often pair filler with jaw Botox for a slimmer V-line.

Common goals

  • Chin projection — a stronger, better-balanced side profile
  • Chin length — a more oval lower face
  • Jaw angle and line — a cleaner border from ear to chin
  • Pre-jowl hollow — smoothing the dip in front of early jowls
  • Symmetry — evening out a jaw or chin that differs side to side

Is it right for you?

Who is a good candidate?

Good candidates have a chin that sits behind the line of the lips in profile, a short chin, or a jawline that looks undefined, without significant sagging. Many patients choose fillers as a reversible, non-surgical alternative to chin implants.

If heavy jowls or loose skin are the main problem, filler alone can add weight, so your dermatologist may suggest lifting such as Ultherapy or thread lifting first, or fat reduction under the chin.

Jawline and chin fillers may suit you if you

  • Have a recessed or short chin in profile
  • Want a sharper jawline without surgery
  • Have mild jowls or a hollow in front of them
  • Want to balance your nose and lips in profile
  • Prefer an adjustable, non-permanent option

Lower-face shape as part of a full plan

This patient had a combined lifting and contouring program to create a slimmer, more defined face shape. It is shown as an example of our non-surgical contouring; it does not include jawline or chin filler.

Jawline and chin results depend on your bone structure, muscle and skin, so ask us at consultation for chin- and jaw-specific cases.

Recovery & safety

Recovery, side effects and aftercare

The chin and jaw may feel firm, tender or swollen for a few days, and chewing or wide mouth movements can feel tight at first. Bruising is possible. Less commonly, asymmetry, lumps or migration can occur; HA filler can be adjusted or dissolved. Rare risks of any filler include infection and blood vessel compromise.

Tell your dermatologist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take blood thinners, have had dental implants, jaw surgery or a chin implant, an active infection or a history of filler reactions. Contact the clinic promptly if pain increases or the skin changes colour.

Aftercare tips

  • Avoid pressing, massaging or resting your chin on your hand for a few days
  • Skip saunas, hot baths and intense exercise for 2 to 3 days
  • Choose softer foods if chewing feels tender
  • Limit alcohol for a couple of days
  • Avoid dental treatment for about two weeks if possible

Questions we hear every day

Jawline & Chin Fillers FAQ

Do jawline and chin fillers hurt?

Most patients feel pressure and brief stinging. Numbing cream is used and most fillers contain lidocaine. The area can feel tender for a few days, especially when chewing.

How long do jawline and chin fillers last?

Because firm fillers placed deep near the bone move little, results often last around 12 to 18 months. Duration varies with the product, amount and your metabolism, and small top-ups maintain the shape.

Is chin filler an alternative to a chin implant?

For mild to moderate recession, filler can give a similar profile change without surgery and can be adjusted. For large changes or a strongly retruded jaw, a surgical opinion may be more appropriate, and your dermatologist will tell you honestly.

Will filler make my face look wider?

Not when it is placed to define angles rather than add bulk. If your jaw is already wide from muscle, your dermatologist may combine conservative filler with jaw Botox to keep the face slim.

Can I have jawline and chin filler during a short visit?

Yes. The appointment is short and most people go out the same day. Allow a few days for swelling and tenderness to settle before important events or photos.
