Pore Tightening · quick answer
What pore tightening does, in one paragraph
Pore tightening is a group of dermatology treatments that make enlarged pores look smaller by firming the skin around them and reducing congestion. Collagen-stimulating options such as fractional laser, RF microneedling and microneedling create controlled micro-injury or heat so the skin rebuilds denser collagen over several weeks, while peels and extraction keep pores clear. At Ever Skin Clinic in Apgujeong, a board-certified dermatologist identifies whether oil, ageing, sun damage or acne is behind your pores before choosing a method.

The treatment
What is pore tightening?
Pores look larger for three main reasons: excess oil and debris stretching the opening, loss of collagen and firmness around the pore with age, and sun or acne damage weakening the pore walls. Pore size is partly genetic, so treatment aims to make pores look smaller rather than remove them.
Our dermatologists choose from collagen-remodelling devices such as Potenza RF microneedling and fractional CO2 laser, combined where helpful with surface care such as Aqua Peel to keep pores clear.
Options we may combine
- RF microneedling - fine needles deliver radiofrequency heat to firm skin around pores
- Fractional laser - microscopic treatment columns trigger collagen renewal
- Microneedling - controlled micro-injury, often with a skin booster
- Chemical peels - loosen oil and dead cells inside the pore
- Medical facials and extraction - clear congestion between sessions

Who is a good candidate?
Pore tightening suits adults whose pores are visible on the cheeks, nose or forehead and who want smoother-looking skin over a few months. Patients with pores widened by ageing or past acne tend to benefit most from collagen-based methods, while very oily skin also needs oil control at home.
If you have active acne, we treat it first through our acne treatments. For darker skin tones, settings are chosen conservatively to lower the risk of pigment change.
Pore tightening may help if you
- Have enlarged pores on the cheeks or nose
- Notice pores looking larger as skin loses firmness
- Have pores alongside shallow acne scars
- Want gradual, natural-looking skin refinement
- Can plan a short course of sessions

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
After laser or RF microneedling, redness, mild swelling and a rough or sandpaper-like feel are common for about three to five days, and pinpoint marks may be visible briefly. Peels and facials usually cause only short-lived redness. Less common risks include acne flares, cold sore reactivation and temporary darkening of the skin, especially with sun exposure.
Tell your dermatologist if you take or recently took isotretinoin, have a history of keloids or cold sores, have an active infection or eczema, or are pregnant.
Aftercare tips
- Use a gentle cleanser and barrier-repair moisturiser
- Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily
- Avoid make-up for about 24 hours after needle or laser treatments
- Pause retinoids and acids until the skin settles
- Skip saunas and intense exercise for 2 to 3 days
Questions we hear every day
Pore Tightening FAQ
Can pores be permanently shrunk?
No treatment can permanently shrink pores, because their size is partly genetic and influenced by oil production and ageing. Collagen-based treatments can make pores look noticeably smaller, and results last longer with sun protection, oil control and occasional maintenance.
Is pore tightening painful?
Laser and RF microneedling feel like warm prickling or snapping; numbing cream is applied beforehand to keep it comfortable. Peels may sting briefly. Your dermatologist can adjust the settings if you are sensitive.
How many sessions will I need?
Most patients have a course of about three to five sessions spaced around four weeks apart, because collagen rebuilds gradually. Some notice smoother texture after the first session, with fuller change over one to three months.
What downtime should I plan for?
After laser or RF microneedling, plan for about three to five days of redness and roughness. Peels and facials usually have little or no downtime. We can choose a gentler setting if your schedule is tight.
Can I start pore tightening during a trip to Seoul?
Yes, you can have a first session during your stay. Allow a few days before flying or important events after needle or laser treatment, and we can advise how to continue the course at home or on a return visit.
