What microneedling does for acne scars, in one paragraph
Microneedling uses a device with very fine needles to make controlled micro-injuries in the skin. The healing response builds new collagen and elastin, which can gradually soften rolling and boxcar acne scars and improve texture and pores. Because it does not remove the skin surface, it carries a lower risk of pigment change than many lasers, which suits a wide range of skin tones. The treatment
What is microneedling for acne scars?
Depressed acne scars form where inflammation destroyed collagen. Microneedling creates thousands of tiny channels in the dermis, which prompts the skin to lay down new collagen and gradually raise and smooth these areas. RF microneedling, such as Potenza, adds radiofrequency heat at the needle tips for a stronger remodelling effect.
The channels also allow regenerative solutions to reach deeper, so microneedling is often paired with PRP or exosomes. Tethered or icepick scars may need subcision or TCA Cross as well.

Is it right for you?
Who is a good candidate?
Microneedling suits adults with mild to moderate depressed acne scars and settled acne, including people with medium to darker skin tones who want to limit pigmentation risk. If you still have frequent breakouts, we usually control them first through our acne programme.
It is not done over active acne, infection, cold sores or eczema flares, and caution is needed with a keloid tendency or recent isotretinoin.

What happens during treatment
A full-face session usually takes about an hour including numbing.
- Assessment A board-certified dermatologist maps your scar types and chooses standard or RF microneedling and any add-on.
- Numbing Numbing cream is applied for about 30 to 45 minutes.
- Microneedling The device is passed over the scarred areas at the planned depth, taking about 15 to 30 minutes.
- Serum and soothing PRP, exosomes or a calming product is applied, and aftercare and the next session are explained.

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
Redness like a mild sunburn usually lasts one to three days, with slight swelling, dryness or pinpoint marks. RF microneedling can cause a little more swelling. Small breakouts, infection, prolonged redness or pigment changes are uncommon and reduced by good aftercare.
Tell your dermatologist if you have active acne, cold sores, eczema or rosacea, a keloid tendency, a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, have recently taken isotretinoin, have a pacemaker or metal implants (for RF), or are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Aftercare tips
- Avoid make-up for 24 hours
- Use only gentle cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen for a few days
- Skip saunas, swimming and intense exercise for 1 to 2 days
- Avoid sun exposure for at least 48 hours
- Pause retinoids, acids and alcohol-based products until advised

Does microneedling hurt?
Numbing cream is applied beforehand, so most patients feel a prickly, vibrating sensation rather than sharp pain. Bony areas such as the forehead can feel more intense. The skin feels warm and tight for a few hours afterwards.
How many sessions will I need for acne scars?
Most patients need about three to six sessions spaced around four weeks apart. Moderate scars often show improvement after three or four, while deeper scars need more sessions or combined methods.
Microneedling or laser: which is better?
Both stimulate collagen. Microneedling has a lower risk of pigment change and suits many skin tones, while fractional lasers can achieve more per session for some scars. Your dermatologist may combine them depending on your scar types.
Can microneedling make acne worse?
It is not performed over active breakouts because it could spread inflammation. A few small spots after treatment can occur and usually settle quickly. Controlling acne first gives the best and safest results.
Can I have microneedling during a short trip?
Yes. Redness usually settles in one to three days, so it fits a short stay. A course gives the best results, so let us know your travel dates if you plan to return for further sessions.
