Side Cheek Fillers · quick answer
What side cheek filler does, in one paragraph
Side cheek filler, also called lateral cheek filler, is hyaluronic acid placed in the hollow below and in front of the ear, beneath a prominent cheekbone. Filling this dip makes the outline from temple to jaw smoother, so the face looks softer and less gaunt, an effect often described in Korea as correcting a "peanut face". At Ever Skin Clinic, a board-certified dermatologist uses modest volumes placed precisely, so the cheeks stay natural when you smile and talk.

The treatment
What is side cheek filler?
In many East Asian faces, prominent cheekbones combined with a hollow below them and a narrower temple create a face that looks wide in the middle and pinched above and below, the so-called peanut shape. Side cheek filler fills the lower hollow so the outline flows smoothly, giving a softer, more oval face and a subtle lifting effect along the jaw.
Technique matters: too much filler, or filler placed too close to the smile muscles, can look bulky when smiling. Our dermatologists aim to use only the amount needed, often combining side cheek filler with temple fillers or zygoma Botox as part of non-surgical facial contouring.
What side cheek filler can help with
- Peanut face — smoothing the dip below wide cheekbones
- Gaunt or tired look — restoring soft volume after weight loss or ageing
- Facial outline — a more continuous line from temple to jaw
- Subtle lift — supporting the lower face from the side
- Balance — evening out asymmetry between sides
Is it right for you?
Who is a good candidate?
Side cheek filler suits people with a visible hollow below the cheekbone, a face that looks wide at the cheekbones and narrow below, or a drawn look after weight loss. It is commonly combined with front-cheek or temple filler for an even result.
If cheekbone width itself is the concern, filler is not a substitute for bone surgery, but softening the surrounding hollows can make cheekbones look less prominent. Your dermatologist will explain what is realistic for your bone structure.
Side cheek filler may suit you if you
- Have a dip below a prominent cheekbone
- Are told you look tired or gaunt
- Want a softer, more oval face without surgery
- Have hollow temples as well as cheeks
- Want natural movement when smiling

Real patient · before & after
A softer, smoother outline
This patient received side cheek filler together with front-cheek filler. The hollow below the cheekbone is softened and the outline from temple to jaw looks smoother, while the face keeps natural movement.
Because the change in this case comes from both areas, your dermatologist will explain at consultation which areas your own face needs.
Photos are shared with the patient's consent and are not retouched apart from privacy blurring. Results differ from person to person and are not guaranteed.

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
Mild swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising are common and usually settle within a few days. The cheeks can feel slightly firm when chewing or yawning at first. Less commonly, asymmetry, lumps or a bulky look when smiling can occur; HA filler can be adjusted or dissolved with hyaluronidase. Vascular complications and infection are rare.
Tell your dermatologist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take blood thinners, have an active skin infection, an autoimmune condition, or previous filler in the area. Contact the clinic promptly if pain increases or the skin changes colour.
Aftercare tips
- Avoid pressing, massaging or sleeping on your side for a few nights
- Skip saunas, hot baths and intense exercise for 2 to 3 days
- Limit alcohol for a couple of days
- Avoid facial massage or radiofrequency treatment for about two weeks
- Wait around two weeks to judge the final shape
Questions we hear every day
Side Cheek Fillers FAQ
What is a peanut face and can filler fix it?
Peanut face describes a face that looks wide at the cheekbones with hollows at the temples and below the cheeks. Filling the side cheek and temple hollows can make the outline smoother and more oval, though it does not change the bone itself.
Will side cheek filler look puffy when I smile?
It should not when modest amounts are placed at the right depth away from the smile muscles. Bulky results usually come from overfilling. Our dermatologists check your expression during treatment and prefer to add gradually.
How long does side cheek filler last?
Results often last around a year or longer, as the area moves less than the lips. Duration depends on the product, amount and your metabolism.
Does side cheek filler hurt?
Most patients feel only pressure and brief stinging. Topical numbing is used and most fillers contain lidocaine, so the short injection is usually well tolerated.
Can I have side cheek filler while visiting Seoul?
Yes. The appointment is short and downtime is usually minimal. Allow a few days for swelling or bruising before photos or events, and avoid sleeping on your side for the first few nights.
