Under Eye Fillers · quick answer

What under eye filler does, in one paragraph

Under eye filler is a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid (HA) placed along the tear trough, the groove between the lower eyelid and the cheek. By filling the hollow, it reduces the shadow that makes eyes look tired, and smooths the transition into the cheek. It works best for hollowness rather than puffiness or pigment. At Ever Skin Clinic, a board-certified dermatologist first works out what is causing your dark circles, because filler only helps the part that comes from volume loss.

The treatment

What are under eye fillers?

The skin under the eyes is among the thinnest on the body, so the filler must be soft, smooth and placed deep and conservatively. Products designed for this area, which may include options such as Juvederm Volbella, Restylane Eyelight or Belotero Balance, are chosen to blend in without visible lumps or a bluish tint. Many patients need only a small amount per side.

Dark circles have several causes, and this page focuses on the hollow, shadow-type kind. For pigment or thin-skin circles see fillers for dark circles and dark circle removal; our tear trough filler page explains our technique in more detail.

What under eye filler can and cannot do

  • Can soften a hollow tear trough and the shadow it casts
  • Can smooth the junction between eyelid and cheek
  • Cannot remove brown pigment or visible veins
  • Cannot fix large under-eye fat bags; filler can make them look worse
  • Often works better when midface support is restored too

Is it right for you?

Who is a good candidate?

The best candidates have a visible groove or hollow under the eyes, reasonably firm lower-eyelid skin and little or no puffiness. Many are in their late twenties to fifties and are told they look tired even when rested.

If you have prominent fat bags, a lot of fluid swelling in the morning, or very thin, crepey skin, your dermatologist may advise against filler or suggest skin-quality treatment such as Rejuran i or a surgical opinion instead.

Under eye filler may suit you if you

  • Have a hollow groove from the inner corner of the eye
  • Look tired because of shadows rather than pigment
  • Have little or no under-eye puffiness
  • Want a non-surgical, adjustable option
  • Are happy with a gradual, conservative approach

Your visit

What happens during treatment

Under eye filler takes about 30 minutes in clinic and can be fitted into a short stay in Seoul.

  1. Assessment Your dermatologist examines the under-eye area in different lighting and positions to judge hollowness, puffiness and pigment.
  2. Numbing Numbing cream is applied, and most under-eye fillers also contain lidocaine.
  3. Injection Small amounts of soft filler are placed deep with a microcannula or fine needle, in conservative steps.
  4. Review We check both sides sitting up, explain aftercare and can review you before you fly home if needed.
Before and after under-eye filler for dark circles with front cheek filler and Onda lifting at Ever Skin Clinic Apgujeong
Under-eye filler for dark circles, front-cheek filler and Onda lifting.

This patient had under-eye filler for dark circles and hollowness, with front-cheek filler to support the midface and Onda lifting for the jawline. The change shown reflects the whole plan, not one treatment alone.

Softer dark circles as part of a balanced plan

Dark circles can come from hollowness, pigment, thin skin or visible vessels, so your dermatologist first identifies the cause and then explains what is realistic for you.

Under-eye results depend on the cause of your dark circles and your skin quality, so ask us at consultation for under-eye-specific cases.

Recovery & safety

Recovery, side effects and aftercare

Mild swelling and bruising are common and usually settle within a few days to a week. Because the skin is thin, too much or too superficial filler can cause puffiness, lumps or a bluish tint; HA filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if this happens. The area is close to important blood vessels, so vascular complications, though rare, are taken seriously.

Tell your dermatologist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, take blood thinners, have recurrent eye swelling, allergies, an eye condition or previous under-eye filler. Seek help immediately if you notice blurred vision, severe pain or skin colour change.

Aftercare tips

  • Avoid rubbing your eyes or pressing the area for a few days
  • Sleep with your head slightly raised for the first nights
  • Use a cool compress gently if swelling is noticeable
  • Avoid saunas, hot baths and alcohol for 2 to 3 days
  • Allow up to two weeks for the final result before judging

Questions we hear every day

Under Eye Fillers FAQ

Do under eye fillers hurt?

Most patients feel pressure and mild stinging rather than sharp pain. Numbing cream is applied, many under-eye fillers contain lidocaine, and a blunt cannula is often used, which can reduce discomfort and bruising.

How long do under eye fillers last?

Because the area moves little, under eye filler often lasts around nine to twelve months and sometimes longer. Duration depends on the product, amount and your metabolism, and a small top-up keeps the result.

Will filler get rid of my dark circles?

Only if they are caused by hollowness and shadow. Brown pigment, visible blood vessels or fat bags need different treatments. Your dermatologist will identify the cause first and may combine filler with laser or skin boosters.

Can under eye filler make my eyes look puffy?

It can if too much is used, the product is too firm or you tend to retain fluid. Conservative amounts of soft filler reduce this risk, and HA filler can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if puffiness persists.

Is it safe to have under eye filler before a flight home?

Many travellers do, but allow at least one to two days before flying if possible so we can check for swelling or bruising. Avoid alcohol on the flight and contact the clinic by message if you have concerns afterwards.
