What Gold PTT does, in one paragraph
Gold PTT (gold photothermal therapy) is a laser treatment for oily, acne-prone skin. A solution of microscopic gold particles is massaged into the skin so it collects in pores and oil glands; a laser tuned to the gold then heats it, damaging overactive sebaceous glands while largely sparing surrounding skin. This can reduce oil production, active acne, recurrence and the look of enlarged pores, usually with little downtime. What is Gold PTT?
"PTT" stands for photothermal therapy. Gold nanoparticles absorb specific laser wavelengths very efficiently, so once they sit inside the follicle and oil gland, a laser can heat that small target selectively. The result is reduced gland activity and fewer acne bacteria, with less light-sensitivity afterwards than PDT. Gold PTT is a laser treatment and is unrelated to gold threads.
Because it reduces oil and pore congestion, Gold PTT can also help pores look smaller and skin feel smoother. It is one of our acne laser treatments and is often combined with medical acne care.

Is it right for you?
Who is a good candidate?
Gold PTT suits teenagers and adults with oily, acne-prone skin and moderate inflammatory acne, and those whose acne returns after creams or antibiotics. It is a practical choice for people who cannot or prefer not to take isotretinoin, or who cannot spend two days avoiding light after PDT.
Severe nodular or cystic acne usually needs medical treatment as well; your dermatologist will explain this. Scars are treated afterwards, for example with Potenza.

What happens during treatment
Allow about an hour in clinic.
- Consultation A board-certified dermatologist grades acne, reviews medicines and confirms Gold PTT is suitable.
- Pore preparation The skin is cleansed and pores are opened, sometimes with gentle exfoliation or extraction.
- Gold application The gold solution is massaged into the skin, often with ultrasound, then excess is removed.
- Laser activation A laser is passed over the area to heat the gold in the glands; cooling and soothing follow.

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
Mild redness and warmth are common and usually settle within hours to a day. Some patients notice a short-lived acne flare or dryness. Less common risks include crusting, temporary pigment change and irritation.
Tell your dermatologist if you are taking isotretinoin or photosensitising medicines, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a known metal or gold allergy, have recently tanned, or have active skin infection such as cold sores.
Aftercare tips
- Use a gentle cleanser and non-comedogenic moisturiser
- Apply SPF daily and avoid strong sun for a few days
- Do not pick or squeeze spots
- Avoid scrubs, retinoids and acids for 2 to 3 days
- Continue any prescribed acne treatment as directed

Gold PTT FAQ
Does Gold PTT hurt?
Most patients feel warmth and light prickling during the laser, which is usually well tolerated without numbing. Extractions, if done, can be more uncomfortable than the laser itself.
How many Gold PTT sessions will I need?
Many patients have about 3 to 5 sessions spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. Some notice less oiliness after the first session, but acne control usually builds over the course. Maintenance may be recommended.
Is Gold PTT the same as gold threads?
No. Gold PTT uses gold nanoparticles in a solution that is activated by laser for acne and oil control. It does not involve threads or implants, and no gold remains in the skin long-term after cleansing.
Gold PTT or PDT: which should I choose?
Both target oil glands. PDT can be stronger but requires about 48 hours of light avoidance and may peel. Gold PTT has less downtime and no strict light restriction. Your dermatologist will recommend one based on severity and schedule.
Can I have Gold PTT while visiting Seoul?
Yes. Downtime is minimal, so most visitors continue their plans the same day. Use sunscreen and avoid picking. Further sessions can be planned on return visits, with a home-care plan in between.
