Chin Augmentation Fillers · quick answer

What non-surgical chin augmentation is, in one paragraph

Non-surgical chin augmentation uses firm hyaluronic acid (HA) filler, placed deep on the chin bone, to increase forward projection or length when the chin is small or recessed. It is an alternative to a chin implant for mild to moderate changes, with no incision and an adjustable, reversible result. At Ever Skin Clinic in Apgujeong, a board-certified dermatologist analyses your profile, including the nose, lips and jaw, and tells you honestly whether filler can achieve your goal or whether a surgical opinion makes more sense.

Profile planning

How we plan chin augmentation

Chin augmentation is a profile decision. Dermatologists commonly look at where the chin sits relative to the lips and nose in side view, the height of the lower face compared with the middle and upper face, and the angle where the chin meets the neck. Small changes in chin projection can make the nose look smaller and the jawline cleaner.

Once the target is set, filler is placed in layers on the bone to imitate a natural chin shape. This page focuses on profile planning; for the injection details and common styles see chin fillers, and for combined lower-face shaping see jawline and chin fillers.

What we assess before augmenting the chin

  • Side profile — chin position relative to lips and nose
  • Lower-face height — whether length, projection or both are needed
  • Chin muscle (mentalis) — strong activity may need Botox alongside
  • Skin and soft tissue — thickness affects how much filler shows
  • Bite and dental history — significant jaw issues may need a dental or surgical opinion

Filler or implant?

Is filler the right choice for your chin?

Filler suits a mild to moderately recessed or short chin, people who want to test a new profile before considering surgery, and those who prefer no incision or anaesthesia. It can be adjusted over several sessions and dissolved if you change your mind.

A chin implant or jaw surgery may suit people needing large projection, those with significant bite problems, or anyone who would need large filler volumes repeatedly. Your dermatologist will tell you if filler is unlikely to give the result you want.

Filler is often a good fit if you

  • Need a modest increase in projection or length
  • Want to see the change before committing to surgery
  • Prefer a quick, non-surgical procedure
  • Want the option to adjust or reverse the result
  • Are combining chin shaping with other contouring

Your visit

What happens during treatment

The visit usually takes under an hour, including numbing and profile photos.

  1. Profile analysis Your dermatologist reviews your profile from several angles, often with photos, and agrees the target shape.
  2. Numbing Numbing cream is applied and the skin is disinfected.
  3. Deep placement Firm HA is placed on the bone in small amounts by needle or cannula, building projection gradually.
  4. Check and plan Your new profile is reviewed; for larger changes, a second session after a few weeks may be planned.

Real patient · before & after

Balancing the profile as a whole

This patient received filler in several facial areas as one plan, so the change shown is not the result of chin filler alone. We share it because chin augmentation is often planned together with other areas for overall balance.

Ask us for chin-specific cases at consultation, and your dermatologist will explain what projection is realistic for you.

Photos are shared with the patient's consent and are not retouched apart from privacy blurring. Results differ from person to person and are not guaranteed.

Recovery & safety

Recovery, side effects and aftercare

Mild swelling, tenderness and occasional bruising usually settle within a few days, and the chin may feel firm for a week or two. Asymmetry or contour irregularities can usually be corrected, and HA can be dissolved with hyaluronidase. Infection and vascular occlusion are rare but need prompt treatment.

Tell your dermatologist about any previous chin implant, filler or threads, planned dental work, active acne or infection on the chin, allergies, blood thinners, or pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contact the clinic urgently for increasing pain, blanching or skin colour change.

Aftercare tips

  • Avoid resting your chin on your hand or pressing the area
  • Skip saunas and intense exercise for 2 to 3 days
  • Limit alcohol for a couple of days
  • Postpone dental treatment for about two weeks if possible
  • Wait about two weeks before judging the final profile

Questions we hear every day

Chin Augmentation Fillers FAQ

How much can filler project my chin?

Filler gives a mild to moderate change, often a few millimetres of projection or length per session. Larger changes may need staged sessions or, in some cases, surgery. Your dermatologist will explain what is achievable with your bone structure and soft tissue.

Is chin filler better than an implant?

Neither is better for everyone. Filler is quick, non-surgical and reversible but needs maintenance. Implants are permanent and suit larger changes but involve surgery and recovery. Many people try filler first to see how they feel about the new profile.

Does chin augmentation filler hurt?

Most patients feel pressure and brief stinging. Numbing cream is used and most fillers contain lidocaine. The chin is less sensitive than the lips, and the injection takes only minutes.

How long will the results last?

Firm HA in the chin often lasts around a year or longer because the area moves relatively little. A small top-up can maintain the shape. Duration varies by product and person.

Can I fly home soon after chin filler?

Yes, flying is generally fine. Swelling usually settles within a few days. If possible, plan a review around two weeks after treatment, or send photos to our team after you return home.
