Restylane Fillers · quick answer
What Restylane is, in one paragraph
Restylane is a long-established range of hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal fillers made by Galderma. Different products in the range vary in firmness and flexibility, so they can be matched to areas such as the lips, cheeks, chin or smile lines. Like other HA fillers, Restylane adds volume and support immediately and can be dissolved with hyaluronidase if needed. At Ever Skin Clinic, a board-certified dermatologist decides whether Restylane or another HA brand best suits each area of your plan.

What is Restylane?
Restylane fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, a sugar molecule found naturally in skin, cross-linked so it lasts for months rather than days. Galderma uses different manufacturing technologies within the range: some gels are firmer to give lift and structure, while others are softer and more flexible for areas that move, such as the lips and smile lines.
Brand matters less than choosing the right gel for each area and placing it well. Our dermatologists use several licensed HA brands, including Restylane and Juvederm, and will explain why a particular product is chosen. For an overview of how HA fillers differ, see hyaluronic acid fillers.
How Restylane products are typically used
- Firmer, lifting gels — cheeks, chin and jawline structure
- Flexible gels — nasolabial folds and areas with movement
- Lip-specific gels — soft definition and volume for the lips
- Fine gels — fine lines and delicate areas
- Exact products available can vary; your dermatologist will confirm at consultation
Is it right for you?
Who is a good candidate?
Restylane suits adults who want to restore lost volume, soften folds or refine features such as the lips and chin with a reversible filler. It is a good option for people who prefer a well-studied international brand, or who have had Restylane before and liked the result.
If you want gradual, longer-lasting volume across larger areas, a collagen stimulator such as Sculptra may be discussed instead or alongside.
Restylane may suit you if you want to
- Restore cheek or temple volume lost with age
- Add soft definition or volume to the lips
- Soften nasolabial folds or marionette lines
- Refine chin or jawline shape
- Keep the option to adjust or dissolve the result

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
Swelling, redness, tenderness and small bruises are common and usually settle within a few days; lips can swell more for the first 24 to 48 hours. Lumps or asymmetry are uncommon and can usually be adjusted or dissolved with hyaluronidase. Rare risks include infection, delayed nodules and vascular occlusion, which needs urgent treatment.
Tell your dermatologist about allergies (including to lidocaine), cold sores if lips are being treated, previous fillers, autoimmune conditions, blood thinners, or pregnancy or breastfeeding. Contact the clinic promptly for increasing pain or skin colour change.
Aftercare tips
- Avoid pressing or massaging treated areas unless advised
- Skip saunas, hot baths and intense exercise for 2 to 3 days
- Limit alcohol for a couple of days
- Avoid dental work for about two weeks if possible
- Allow about two weeks before judging the final result
Questions we hear every day
Restylane Fillers FAQ
Is Restylane better than other fillers?
No single brand is best for everyone. Restylane is well studied, but other licensed HA fillers can give equally good results. What matters most is matching the gel's firmness to the area and placing it correctly. Your dermatologist will explain the choice.
How long does Restylane last?
Depending on the product and area, results often last around six to eighteen months. Lips and areas with lots of movement tend to fade sooner, while cheeks and chin often last longer. Metabolism and lifestyle also play a role.
Does Restylane hurt?
Most Restylane products contain lidocaine, and numbing cream is used beforehand, so most patients feel pressure and brief stinging. Lips are more sensitive than other areas. Let your dermatologist know if you are anxious about pain.
Can Restylane be dissolved?
Yes. As a hyaluronic acid filler, Restylane can be broken down with hyaluronidase injections if it is uneven, misplaced or in an emergency such as vascular occlusion. This reversibility is one advantage of HA fillers.
Can I request Restylane specifically?
Yes, you can ask, and if it suits the area we can usually use it. If your dermatologist thinks a different product would work better for a particular area, they will explain why so you can decide together.
