Lip Injections · quick answer
What lip injections do, in one paragraph
Lip injections usually mean placing soft hyaluronic acid (HA) filler in the lips to add volume, define the border, correct asymmetry or improve dryness and fine lines. Because HA can be dissolved, it is the standard choice for lips. Some patients instead or additionally have a small dose of Botox (a lip flip) to show slightly more of the upper lip. At Ever Skin Clinic in Apgujeong, a board-certified dermatologist designs the shape in proportion to your face before injecting.

The treatment
What are lip injections?
Lip fillers are soft, flexible HA gels designed to move naturally with speech and expression. Depending on your goal, filler can be placed in the body of the lip for volume, along the vermilion border for definition, at the corners to lift a downturned mouth, or as tiny droplets to hydrate and smooth fine lines.
Our approach favours balance rather than size, often following the Korean preference for a soft, natural look. For a closer look at technique and lip shapes, see lip fillers; for a subtle upper-lip roll without volume, see lip flip Botox.
What lip injections can address
- Volume for thin or flattened lips
- Shape : a clearer border and Cupid's bow
- Symmetry between the left and right or upper and lower lip
- Hydration and fine vertical lip lines
- Corners : softening a downturned mouth

Who is a good candidate?
Lip injections suit adults who want fuller, more defined or more balanced lips and accept that HA filler is temporary. Bring reference photos if you have a look in mind; your dermatologist will explain what suits your face and how many treatments a gradual build-up may need.
If you have had permanent lip filler, implants or frequent cold sores, mention it at consultation. Overfilled or migrated filler can often be corrected with filler dissolving first.
Lip injections may suit you if you want to
- Add subtle volume to thin lips
- Define the lip border and Cupid's bow
- Correct asymmetry
- Smooth fine lines around the mouth
- Refresh lips that have thinned with age

Filler planned for the whole face
This case shows full-face filler, shown as an example of our approach to balanced, natural-looking results. It is not a lip injection result.
Lips look best in proportion to the chin, cheeks and nose, which is why we assess the whole face. Ask us for lip-specific cases at consultation.
Photos are shared with the patient's consent and are not retouched apart from privacy blurring. Results differ from person to person and are not guaranteed.

Recovery, side effects and aftercare
Lips swell easily, so they often look larger for one to three days, and bruising can last up to a week. Small lumps usually settle as swelling fades. Rare risks include infection, cold sore reactivation, delayed nodules and vascular occlusion, which is why we use dissolvable HA and know how to act quickly.
Tell your dermatologist if you have frequent cold sores (preventive medication may be advised), dental work planned soon, an active infection, a bleeding disorder or take blood thinners, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Aftercare tips
- Use cold compresses gently for swelling on the first day
- Avoid kissing, straws and pressing on the lips for 24 hours
- Skip saunas, alcohol and intense exercise for 1 to 2 days
- Sleep with your head slightly raised the first night
- Contact the clinic about severe pain or skin colour change

Lip Injections FAQ
Do lip injections hurt?
Lips are sensitive, but numbing cream and the lidocaine in most lip fillers keep discomfort manageable. Most patients describe pressure and brief stings. Tell your dermatologist if you are anxious so the pace can be adjusted.
How long do lip fillers last?
Lip filler usually lasts about six to twelve months, as the lips move constantly. Duration depends on the product, amount and your metabolism. Many patients top up once or twice a year to maintain the shape.
Will my lips look overfilled?
Not if the amount suits your face. We prefer a gradual approach, often starting with a conservative amount and adding more at a later visit if you wish. Swelling makes lips look bigger for the first few days.
What is the difference between lip filler and a lip flip?
Filler adds volume and shape. A lip flip uses a small dose of Botox to relax the muscle around the mouth so the upper lip rolls slightly outward, showing more lip without adding volume. They can be combined.
Can I get lip filler before a trip or event?
Yes, but allow time for swelling and possible bruising, ideally at least one to two weeks before an important event. Flying a day or two later is generally fine. We stay in touch by message if you have concerns after you leave.
