Crow's Feet Botox · quick answer

Crow's feet and Botox, in one paragraph

Crow's feet are the fan of lines at the outer corners of the eyes. They start as dynamic lines from the orbicularis oculi muscle contracting when you smile or squint, and later become static as collagen declines and sun damage builds up. Botox relaxes the outer part of this muscle and works best on the dynamic component, usually for about three to four months. At Ever Skin Clinic, a board-certified dermatologist separates movement lines from skin-quality lines and combines treatments where needed.

Why they form

What causes crow's feet?

The skin at the outer eye is among the thinnest on the face, and the orbicularis oculi muscle beneath it contracts every time you smile, laugh or squint. Early on, lines appear only with expression. With time, falling collagen and elastin, UV exposure, smoking and genetics make the skin less able to bounce back, and lines remain at rest.

Botox addresses the movement. Skin-quality treatments address the etched-in component. For the step-by-step injection process, see our crow's feet Botox treatment page; for skin quality, our dermatologists may suggest skin boosters or Rejuran.

Factors that deepen crow's feet

  • Expression : frequent smiling and squinting
  • Sun exposure : UV breaks down collagen in thin eye skin
  • Ageing : gradual loss of collagen, elastin and fat support
  • Genetics : some people form lines earlier
  • Lifestyle : smoking, poor sleep and dehydration

Is it right for you?

Who benefits from Botox, and who needs more

If your lines mostly appear when you smile, Botox alone often gives a good result. If they remain visible at rest, Botox still softens them, but adding a skin booster, laser or energy device usually improves texture further. If lines extend down onto the cheek, they are partly caused by the cheek lifting, and Botox alone will have a limited effect there.

Crow's feet Botox suits you if you

  • Have lines mainly when smiling or squinting
  • Want to slow early lines from becoming permanent
  • Prefer a quick treatment with little downtime
  • Are also considering frown or forehead Botox
  • Accept that static lines may need extra treatment

Your plan

How we plan eye-area treatment

The Botox injection itself takes minutes; the planning is what makes the difference.

  1. Analysis Your dermatologist assesses lines at rest and when smiling, skin thickness, lower lids and cheeks.
  2. Botox Small, shallow doses are placed at 2 to 4 points per side outside the eye rim.
  3. Skin quality If needed, boosters, laser or energy treatments are planned for the etched-in component.
  4. Maintenance We suggest a schedule for Botox and skin treatments that fits your travel.

Combining movement and skin-quality treatment

This patient had a combined program of lifting, contouring Botox, filler and Rejuran. It illustrates how we combine treatments for an overall fresher look, but it is not a crow's feet Botox result and the change cannot be credited to Botox around the eyes.

Recovery & safety

Recovery, side effects and aftercare

Small bumps settle within minutes to hours. Bruising is somewhat more common at the eyes because of fine veins, but can be covered with make-up. Uncommon effects include a changed smile, lower-lid puffiness or, rarely, dry eye or double vision if the toxin spreads; all are temporary.

Tell your dermatologist if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a neuromuscular condition, have dry eyes, lower-lid laxity or past eyelid surgery, or take blood thinners.

Aftercare tips

  • Stay upright for about 4 hours after Botox
  • Do not rub your eyes on the treatment day
  • Wear sunglasses to reduce squinting and UV exposure
  • Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen around the eyes daily
  • Use a gentle, hydrating eye cream

Questions we hear every day

Crow's Feet Botox FAQ

At what age should I start crow's feet Botox?

There is no set age. Some people start in their late twenties or thirties when lines first stay visible after smiling, to slow them becoming etched in. Others start later. Your dermatologist will advise based on your skin, not your age alone.

Can Botox remove crow's feet completely?

Botox softens lines caused by movement, often very well. Lines that are etched in at rest usually improve but may not disappear with Botox alone. Combining it with skin boosters, laser or energy treatments can improve the remaining texture over time.

How long does crow's feet Botox last?

Results typically last about three to four months, after which movement and lines gradually return. Regular treatment, along with daily sunscreen and sunglasses, can help slow the deepening of lines between sessions. Duration varies between people, depending on dose, muscle strength and metabolism.

Is Botox safe so close to the eyes?

When placed correctly, outside the bony eye rim and in small doses, it is a well-established treatment. Rare side effects include dry eye or double vision if the toxin spreads, which are temporary. Choosing an experienced doctor and following aftercare reduces risks.

What can I do for crow's feet on a short trip?

Botox is the quickest option, with minimal downtime and effect within a few days. If you also want to improve skin texture, a skin booster can usually be done in the same trip, with small bumps that settle within a few days. Your dermatologist can plan around your dates.
